Motorhome CAT 2 to CAT 1 Upgrade Alarm
(Sigma S37)

This is a common request from insurance companies when insuring vehicles such as Motorhomes or Land Rover.
🚨 What Is a Cat 2>1 Upgrade Alarm?
If your vehicle already has a factory-fitted Thatcham Cat 2 immobiliser, such as many Land Rovers, vans, and motorhomes do, you don’t need to add a new immobiliser. Instead, a Cat 2>1 upgrade alarm adds the missing alarm components—interior sensors, siren, etc.—to elevate your system to full Cat 1 status.
This is especially useful for insurance purposes or for vehicles that are commonly targeted by thieves.
⚙️ Example: Sigma S37 Cat 2>1 Upgrade Alarm
The Sigma S37 is one of the most popular and widely approved Cat 2>1 upgrade alarms in the UK. Here’s what it includes:
-
🔒 Perimeter Protection – triggers if doors, boot, or bonnet are opened while armed
-
🏠 Ultrasonic Interior Sensors – detects motion inside the vehicle
-
📢 118dB Battery Backup Siren – sounds even if the vehicle battery is disconnected
-
🧠 Automatic Arming & Re-arming – protects the vehicle even if you forget
-
🚗 Works With Factory Key – can often be programmed to arm/disarm using your original fob
-
🔑 Optional Touch Key Override – for extra security or if fob battery dies
Once installed with a valid Cat 2 immobiliser, the system qualifies the vehicle as Thatcham Category 1 compliant.
✅ Summary
A Sigma S37 Cat 2>1 upgrade is ideal if your vehicle already has an immobiliser but lacks an alarm. It's cost-effective, insurance-approved, and adds a powerful layer of theft deterrence and protection—without the need for a full alarm and immobiliser refit.
Classic Car Alarm CAT 1 (Sigma s30)

✅ Why Choose the Sigma S30 for Your Classic Vehicle?
The Sigma S30 is one of the most trusted aftermarket alarms for classic and custom vehicles. Designed to offer high levels of protection with minimal intrusion, it’s ideal for older vehicles that were never fitted with alarms or immobilisers from the factory.
Key features include:
-
🔒 Perimeter protection – triggers if doors, boot, or bonnet are opened while armed
-
🏠 Ultrasonic interior sensors – detects movement inside the cabin
-
📢 118dB battery back-up siren – sounds even if the vehicle battery is disconnected
-
🔧 Dual-circuit immobiliser – prevents the engine from starting
-
🔑 Two waterproof remote controls – lock, unlock, arm, and disarm with ease
-
💡 Status LED and flashing indicators – visual feedback on system activity
🛠️ Optional Central Locking Integration
For classic vehicles that do not already have central locking, we can supply and install high-quality motor kits and link them to the Sigma S30. This allows the alarm fob to operate the vehicle’s locking system remotely.
However, due to the complexity and variation of classic door mechanisms, we cannot provide a quote for central locking without inspecting the vehicle first. In many cases, door cards must be carefully removed to assess clearance, access, and cable routing. Some older vehicles may also have been modified in the past, adding to the complexity.
💷 Pricing – What Affects the Cost?
Installing an alarm system in a classic car is rarely a one-size-fits-all job. Factors that affect pricing include:
-
The age and condition of wiring and electrics
-
Whether the vehicle has positive or negative earth
-
The layout and accessibility of the fuse box, battery, and ignition circuits
-
The number of doors and whether central locking is being added
-
Whether the interior is already trimmed or needs disassembly
As a result, installation of the Sigma S30 typically ranges from £550 to £1,000 inc VAT, depending on the vehicle. We’ll give you a more accurate estimate once we’ve seen the car in person.
🧰 Professional, Sympathetic Installation
We pride ourselves on clean, factory-style installations that preserve your car’s originality. All wiring is hidden, and we avoid any visible modifications wherever possible. If any changes are necessary, they are always discussed with you beforehand. Our goal is to protect your vehicle—without changing what makes it special.
